Document Checklist for Truck Drivers

1PASSPORT
Valid passport. Recommended 2–3 years validity. Apply at Home Affairs.
2CODE 14 (EC) LICENCE
Must be valid. You already have this.
3PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Must be valid. You already have this. Renew at the Licensing Department if expired.
4POLICE CLEARANCE (SAPS)
Start immediately — this is the longest step. Takes 2–6 weeks.
5SEND PCC FOR APOSTILLE
Send ONLY the ORIGINAL to PostNet Suite 108, Private Bag X15, Menlo Park, 0102. The apostille (DIRCO) makes it valid for Europe. DO NOT SEND COPIES — copies = rejection and delays.
6MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
You already have this — it was done for your PDP. The employer does not ask for a new one. Just make sure your PDP is valid.
7INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT (IDP)
Issued same day. Automobile Association (AA) of South Africa.
8PROOF OF EXPERIENCE
Employer reference letter (company name and contacts, your position, employment period, signature) OR official driving history.
9PREPARE COPIES (FINAL STEP)
Clear copies of ALL documents: passport, licence, PDP, police clearance, medical certificate, IDP.

Zimbabwe has its own process. Zimbabwe is an Apostille country, but the apostille is issued in Harare — not by DIRCO in South Africa. Do not follow the South African steps.

1Passport
Valid passport (Civil Registry / Registrar General).
2Driving licence (to confirm)
The Zimbabwean licence class valid for heavy articulated vehicles.
3Police clearance
Issued by the ZRP Criminal Investigation Department (CID); the main processing centre is CID Headquarters in Harare.
4Apostille
Issued by the Department of Consular Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Harare. It must be processed inside Zimbabwe — an embassy abroad cannot issue it for you.
5Medical certificate (to confirm)
Confirm with us whether Zimbabwe requires a separate certificate.
6International Driving Permit (IDP) (to confirm)
Where to obtain it in Zimbabwe — confirm with us before applying.
7Proof of experience
Employer reference letter (company name and contacts, position, period, signature) OR official driving history.
8Prepare copies
Clear copies of all documents.
